About Me

Hi, I'm Martha Lewis

I'm a sleep coach for loving parents who are exhausted and frustrated because their baby or toddler isn't sleeping.

They want their baby to sleep but they struggle with how to do it because there's too much information out there.

I help parents in Wyoming, Idaho and all over the country to get their babies sleeping so they have energy, more time to spend with each other, and a happier baby.

My Story

If your baby isn't sleeping, I know how you feel! When my son Parker was 12 weeks old, he was sleeping in bed with me and waking up every 1-2 hours all night long. I didn't know what to do except for try to nurse him back to sleep, but that didn't always work.

The only way he would sleep for longer than 30 minutes was if I were carrying him or holding him. And the only way I could get him to sleep was by nursing or bouncing on an exercise ball.  My husband was sleeping on the couch and I had to go back to work. I was miserable and desperate for sleep!

Our Sleep Props

I am a researcher at heart so I was constantly reading books, blog posts, and website articles about getting my baby to sleep. I tried noise machines, a swing, a rock-and-play, pacifier, lavender oil, anything that might help him sleep! I ended up being more confused than ever and nothing worked.

I was like most of my clients because I didn't want Parker to cry. I was so worried about psychologically damaging him by letting him cry it out. I would read all the attachment parenting articles and be horrified about letting him cry it out. Then I would read the articles in support of sleep training but I was still skeptical. I finally came across Alice Callahan's Science of Mom website that put sleep training into perspective. And she was bouncing her son to sleep on an exercise ball, just like me!

I was so sleep deprived that I had a few days where I cried off and on all day long because I didn't see how anything was going to change. I would think about the future raising my son and think, "What have I done?" I loved him so much, but I couldn't imagine a happy future. I finally decided that I had to do something. I decided that it was better for Parker to cry a little than to be raised by a depressed, miserable mom.

So I finally decided to ask for help, and I hired a sleep consultant. It was hard for me to admit that I needed help and that I couldn't do it on my own. But I really needed some guidance and support. It was the best decision I've made so far as a parent!

Parker cried some the first few nights going to sleep. It was miserable but I was there to comfort him so I felt ok about it. And within 4 nights he was sleeping in his crib and only waking up once to nurse. I was a new person! I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, and I was excited to be a mom. I just needed to get some sleep to feel this way!

My Journey

I have been interested in health for a long time now. I have been passionately studying nutrition for over a decade. I earned my M.S. in Holistic Nutrition in 2007. I am a certified GAPS practitioner and am fascinated with restoring gut health.

But once I started learning about sleep and saw how well Parker responded to "sleep training," I wanted to learn more.

I want to help other parents get the sleep they need so they can be excited about having a baby and have energy to play in our mountain town. I mean, what's the point of living in a beautiful mountain town if you can't enjoy it? I wanted the energy to run and hike and mountain bike and snowboard like I used to before I had a baby.

I believe healthy sleep is as important as nutritious food and lots of love for babies.

So I decided to study sleep. I did an extensive training through Dana Obleman of Sleep Sense. I chose the Sleep Sense training because it teaches how to get babies and children sleeping without leaving them alone to cry it out. It uses more gentle methods that I can adapt to all baby's temperaments and all parenting styles.

My Sleep Issues

I've had my own sleep problems, too! My insomnia started in late pregnancy. But even after my son starting sleeping better at 3 months old, I still had problems sleeping. I was exhausted most of the time and frustrated that I couldn't figure out my sleep, too. I had a hard time falling asleep at night. And many nights I would wake up at 4 or 5am and not be able to go back to sleep. I woke up tired so many mornings even though I had been in bed for 8 or more hours.

After 2 years of struggling, I hired one of my Sleep Sense peers who had the adult certification. I was skeptical it would help me. After all, I knew a lot about sleep as a baby sleep consultant. But within a few weeks of making some recommended changes, I started sleeping so much better. Now I fall asleep quickly at night and sleep until morning!

Now, as a certified Sleep Sense consultant, I am lucky to be able to follow my passion and help families get the sleep they need! I love how thrilled parents are when their child's sleep improves so much in just a few days. One client told that her husband told her she was much happier since hiring me, 3 days into our time together!

I love helping babies sleep because then the whole family gets the sleep they need. But sometimes adults struggle with their sleep, too. Because the program worked so well for me, I wanted to learn how to help adults sleep as well. I am now certified as an adult Solve Your Sleep consultant.

As a nutritionist, I can teach you what to feed your baby for his first foods and can help figure out food sensitivities and nutritional deficiencies. I can also help even the pickiest eaters start to eat new foods.

I love helping babies and children be as healthy as possible in every way so they are happy little campers.
