Is the stress of sleep training harmful?
Just because you have a baby doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your sleep and sanity forever! Sure, the first few months your baby will need to be cared for day and night. But after that, your little one is developmentally ready to sleep longer stretches during the night and wake up 1-2 times to feed.
This is a great article that talks about the difference between chronic, damaging stress and the short-term stress of sleep training for babies. As Amy Kiefer, PhD writes in her Expecting Science blog, "there’s no evidence in humans–none–to support the view that sleep training is harmful. If there were, we’d have heard about it."
